Slow your boat down as you approach the shore. Ensure there is enough distance between your boat and boats on either side. Consider whether there will still be enough space if your boat begins to rock.
Drop the stern anchor about 50 to 75 feet from the shore. Slide the anchor in gently; do not drop it violently or throw it. This is necessary to prevent your boat from moving on to the beach.
Continue toward land until the anchor chain is taut. Stop the boat and pick up the bow anchor.
Carry your bow anchor onto the beach and set it down firmly. Ensure that it is secure and strong enough to keep your boat in place.
Encourage passengers to exit the boat once you have ensured the anchors are in place. Your boat should be secure for as long as your are on shore.
