Toddler Activities at Science World in Vancouver

Science World (scienceworld.ca) in Vancouver, British Columbia, aims to inspire future researchers and leaders in science and technology through early education. The center exposes toddlers to science theories through tactile hands-on learning experiences and games.
  1. Kidspace

    • The Kidspace area is a large inside playground designed for children ages two to six. Filled with space themed toys and games, it is a place for kids to explore science and technology. The room features a spaceship, climbing gyms and puzzles and allows toddlers to explore in a safe, carpeted and fall proof environment.

    Preschool Curiosity Club

    • The Preschool Curiosity Club offers hour long classes for toddlers that focus on learning about science through fun and games. Engaging hands-on activities in topics including dinosaurs, movement, chemistry, building, colors and magnets build on toddlers' natural curiosity. Small groups sing songs, tell stories and participate, along with a parent, in activities lead by Science World staff.

    Films

    • When toddlers are all tired from exploring the exhibitions, they can stop for some rest at the Science Theater, which runs a continuous stream of educational short films about animals, plants and the environment. Shows include Toons for Tots films, animated shorts especially for toddlers. Science World has an Omnimax theater with a giant screen that immerses viewers in the film. The surround projection may interest toddlers but can also be scary for some children.

    Centre Stage

    • Centre Stage is an area where toddlers can watch the daily presentations and science experiments conducted by staff. The presentations allow children to see science theories in action while playing with things like bubbles and goo. While the science may be too advanced for a toddler to understand completely, the hands-on activity of the experiments are still entertaining.
