Visit the MyCIC key website. Online applicants will need to obtain a MyCIC access key from the government of Canada to proceed with completing an online application. Establish a user ID 8 to 16 characters in length. The ID must not contain special characters and no more than 7 numbers. Create a password between eight and 16 characters. The password must contain at least one upper-case letter, one lower-case letter and one number, and be different from your User ID. Confirm the password. Click "Submit" when completed.
Login with your MyCIC access key to begin the online application.
Add information on your current profession, if any, including name of employer address. Check the box reflecting your citizenship status in the United States. Enter the name and address of the school you will attend. Enter tuition fees, expenses and room and board costs. Check "Yes" or "No" to indicate whether you have been exposed to tuberculosis in the last two years. Answer questions regarding your criminal history. Enter information about any countries in which you have resided in the last five years. Review the application. Click "Submit."
Print confirmation that your application has been submitted. Wait for a letter confirming an approval from Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Service. If you are a U.S. Permanent Resident or in the U.S. on a temporary work visa, you must make an appointment with the nearest Canadian consulate to obtain a visa stamp in your passport. U.S. citizens may carry the approval letter along with their acceptance letter from the school program to Canada for entry as a student.
Download an application form for a study permit from the website of the CIC. Complete the form. Write or type in your answers onto the application.
Carry the completed application form along with your acceptance letter from the school program, passport, proof of financial statement, proof of intention to return and application fee of $125 with you to Canada.
Whether traveling by land or air, hand your completed application for a study permit to the immigration officer upon arrival. Give the officer your supporting documents upon request. Pay the fee when requested. The officer will stamp your passport to admit you into Canada for study.
