Explore the Punch Bowl on Trail 3. This 1.7-mile very rugged trail offers a glimpse into the effects of the glacial period in Indiana. The Punch Bowl is a huge pothole created by the erosion caused by glacial water as it melted. Trail 3 also features a series of ladders to assist hikers into and out of Bear Hollow.
Check out Boulder Canyon on Trail 9. This 1-mile very rugged trail offers additional testimony of the glacial period. Boulder Canyon is littered with huge pieces of bedrock swept down from Canada during the Pleistocene Epoch.
Wander along Sugar Creek as it meanders through the heart of Turkey Run State Park. Several hiking trails follow the banks of Sugar Creek allowing visitors to get up close to the waterway. Also, a pedestrian suspension bridge spans the creek and serves as a gateway to a number of hiking trails.
Check out two historical covered bridges. Crossing Sugar Creek are a pair of covered bridges--the Narrows Covered Bridge (1882) at the east end of the park and the Cox Ford Covered Bridge (1913) at the west end.
Visit the Lusk Home. Captain Lusk, among the first European settlers in the area, built a grist mill here in 1829 and completed his home in 1841. Tours are available on a seasonal basis at the restored pioneer home.
Visit Lieber Cabin. The cabin was built by Richard Lieber in 1848 and moved to Turkey Run in 1918. Today, the log cabin museum pays homage to Lieber's contributions to Indiana state parks.
Spend the night in Turkey Run State Park Inn. Built in 1919, the inn has seen its share of visitors who have come to marvel at the sandstone cliffs, deep ravines, the old-growth trees and a variety of wildlife. The rustic inn is open year-round, offering 61 rooms in the lodge plus 21 cabins. The full-service dining room can accommodate up to 175.
