Campgrounds in Glen Haven, Michigan

The village of Glen Haven is the restored reincarnation of early 19th-century logging town, Sleeping Bearville, and is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore park, along the shore of Lake Michigan. This tribute to the region's maritime and logging past offers an entertaining stop for summer visitors to the Leelanau area. Whether your camping style is ritzy or rustic, the area provides plenty of popular spots to pitch your tent, RV or camper.
  1. Lakeshore Campgrounds

    • The Lake Ann State Forest campground on Lake Ann is located about 14 miles southeast of Glen Haven and features 30 rustic camping sites with vault toilets and a hand pump for water. Leelanau Pines Campground in Cedar, is a modern camping experience, with Wi-Fi, a store, 181 campsites with electric hook-up and restrooms with showers as well as a private boat-launch for campers. Turtle Lake Campground in Beulah, sits on the shore of Crystal Lake and offers 107 modern campsites with available RV hook-ups, a pavilion, recreational building, playground, showers and Wi-Fi.

    Inland Campgrounds

    • Empire Township campground in Empire is just eight miles from Glen Haven and offers mostly rustic camp sites with a limited number of electric hook-ups. The Platte River State Forest campground in Honor, about 20 miles from Glen Haven, offers rustic camping on 26 sites with vault toilets and a hand pump for water. Platte River provides excellent opportunities for canoeing and trout fishing. Cycle-Moore in Interlochen is about 20 miles southeast of Glen Haven and caters to motorcycle campers with an on-site repair shop and store, mini-motorcycle museum and modern campground.

    RV Campgrounds

    • The Indigo Bluffs RV Resort & Rally Park in Empire is just seven miles from Glen Haven and provides a motor coach park and a separate towable RV park as well as modern and rustic camping sites. Lake Leelanau RV Park features 196 sites with full hook-up that includes Wi-Fi, cable television, electricity, water and sewer. Wild Cherry Resort near Lake Leelanau provides 50 RV hook-up sites with cement patios, picnic tables, water, electricity, sewer, Wi-Fi and a log building lodge for events.

    Area Attractions

    • Visit the historic village of Glen Haven, where the restored General Store serves as a visitor's center and curio shop and the Blacksmith Shop demonstrates 1920s blacksmithing skills. The Glen Haven Cannery serves as a great lakes small craft and equipment museum, and the Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard members re-enact rescue drills for visitors during the summer months. Maritime enthusiasts can check out one or more of the Manitou Passage Underwater Preserve attractions that include shipwrecks, pier remains and diving opportunities at many of the sites. If you visit in late June or early July, don't miss out on the National Cherry Festival in nearby Traverse City.
