Westfalia Pop Top Instructions

Westfalia Vans, made by the German Volkswagen, provide a self-contained camping unit. Many of the Westfalias have kitchens, sleeping cots and pop top camper tops. Setting up these pop top extensions on the roof of the Westfalia is done by releasing attachment points and using the VW lifts. VW designed these vans to have quick set-ups on the pop top tents. Spend less time assembling the VW Westfalia pop top and more time getting out into the backcountry to play and explore.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the attachment points on the ceiling of the Westfalia van. Older models, such as the 1968, used rubber fasteners to hold the pop top to the ceiling. More recent models, such as those form the mid '80s, use a metal attachment bracket with a spring.

    • 2

Push the pop top tent up until the two end supports engage and connect. Listen for a click indicating the supports have locked into position, securing the pop top tent.

    • 3

Open the windows on the pop top tent using the zippers. There is a mesh window off the back of the pop top tent.

    • 4

Pull down on the pop top supports to close the pop top when ready to transport. Pull down and push in on the small metal balls pointing out of the locking supports. This releases the supports so you can bring the pop top tent back into the ceiling housing.

    • 5

Secure the rubber or metal spring attachments to secure the pop top tent back into the ceiling.
