The first version of the aircraft built was designated the MU-2, which was followed by the MU-2A. All subsequent models were officially classified as variants of the MU-2B but were given their own model numbers, from the MU-2D through the MU-2N, for marketing purposes. Two models with more sophisticated outfitting, the Solitaire and the Marquise, were given non-alphanumerical model designations. Several of the models, including the Marquise, were designed with a stretched fuselage to provide a higher passenger capacity.
The MU-2B has a wingspan of 39 feet 2 inches, a length of 33 feet 3 inches and a tail height of 12 feet 11 inches. The Marquise variation has the same wingspan but a length of 39 feet 5 inches and a height of 13 feet 8 inches. The MU-2B has an empty weight of 5,340 pounds and a maximum takeoff weight of 8,930 pounds. The Marquise has an empty weight of 7,650 pounds and a maximum takeoff weight of 11,575 pounds. All models of the MU-2 accommodate a flight crew of one or two and seven to 11 passengers depending on the fuselage length.
The MU-2B has a range of 1,040 nautical miles. It has a maximum cruising speed of 270 knots and its maximum operating altitude is 29,750 feet. The Marquise model has a range of 1,395 nautical miles and a maximum cruising speed of 308 knots.
All variants of the MU-2B are equipped with two Garrett TPE331 turboprop engines. Early versions of the engines produced 575 shaft horsepower, while later versions increased the power output to 665 shp. The version of the engine used in the Marquise, the TPE331-10-501M, produced 715 shp. The Solitaire and the Marquise, along with the MU-2N and MU-2P, employed four-blade propellers, while all earlier models had three-blade propellers.
