Go to the Amtrak website. On the left side of the page is a form to fill out to get trip choices. Enter your departing and arriving cities and the date on which you will be traveling. There are options for one-way and round-trip tickets. Choose the correct option. When the boxes are filled out correctly, click the "Go!" button.
Pick your train trip from the offered options. Depending on your route, the trip may have multiple legs and may take more than one day.
Choose your seating option for each leg of your trip. If you have an overnight leg on your trip, you will be given an option to purchase a room or stay in a seat overnight. Rooms offer fold-down beds and other amenities, as well as privacy. Once you have chosen your accommodations, click on the "Add to cart" button.
Click on the "Passenger Type" box to inform Amtrak whether you are eligible for any of a number of discounts. There are options for military members, AAA members, seniors, students and more. Fill out any discount codes you may have on this same page. If you have a discount code, click the "Apply Discount" button. Otherwise, click on "Enter Passenger Information".
Log in at the next page if you are a member of the Amtrak website, otherwise continue using the site as a guest. Decide how you would like to receive your tickets. You may pick them up at the Amtrak station on your day of departure, or you may choose to have them delivered to your home or office for an additional fee.
Fill out the passenger contact information, such as address, phone number and email address. When this form is completed, click on the "Continue to payment" button.
Enter your billing information on the next page. You will need to provide your credit card information, as well as your current billing address.
Read the terms and conditions of the site, and click on the box indicating that you have read them. Click on the "Purchase" button. You will be taken to a confirmation page with information about your trip that you may print for your reference.
