How to Check An Amtrak Train's Status

Delays are common in all forms of travel and Amtrak trains are no exception. Bad weather, mechanical problems, passenger issues and the long distances covered by Amtrak routes are all factors in possible train delays. Amtrak often provides arrival and departure times that incorporate extra time for these expected delays, but this is not always enough. The only way to get an accurate reading on the progress of an Amtrak train is to check its status in real time.

Visit the official Amtrak website where you will find information on the company, its service, trains, tickets and baggage specifications.

Click on the "Status" button located along the top of the booking widget on the left. You will be taken to a form that asks for the date, train number (which is optional as most do not know it), departure and arrival cities, and scheduled times of the train you are looking for, enter the information requested and click the "Check Status" button.

Review the Train Status page that opens. On this page you will find a breakdown of the train's progress from departure to its current location. There is a stop-by-stop assessment of the arrival times and departures from each station along the route complete with reports on lateness or earliness.
