Little Sand Lake Camping in Minnesota

Little Sand Lake, about three hours north of Minneapolis near Remer, Minnesota, is part of a chain of lakes that includes Sand Lake and Bowstring Lake. Campers can fish for walleye and crappie, hike, picnic and swim, with ice fishing in the winter.

    • The 1.6-million-acre Chippewa National Forest, which surrounds Little Sand Lake, supports one of the highest breeding densities of bald eagles in the continental United States, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Watch for eagles while camping at Little Sand Lake.

      Remer's Community Guide lists two private campgrounds in the Little Sand Lake area, along with resorts. There are no developed Chippewa National Forest campgrounds on the lake, though primitive campsites are scattered throughout the forest.
