Campgrounds in the Tri-Cities of Tennessee

The Tri-Cities of northeast Tennessee include Johnson City, Bristol and Kingsport. The cities are in the Appalachian Mountains and surrounded by hills, rivers and lakes. Many campgrounds dot the rural landscape, and the area is a good base for outdoor adventures. The Appalachian Trail runs nearby, and there are many other trails, parks and wildlife areas to enjoy. The fall colors are beautiful, there is snowfall in winter, and summers are relatively mild in the mountains surrounding the Tri-Cities.
  1. Warriors' Path State Park

    • Warriors' Path State Park is named after a trail once used by the Cherokee. Today it is a 900-acre park very near Kingsport, but it is far enough away to feel very distant from civilization.

The park has 134 campsites with tables and grills, and 94 sites have electrical and water hookups. The other sites are only open in summer and have water but no other utilities. There is a bathhouse as well as restrooms. No reservations are taken.

The park has two hiking trails, a seven-mile biking trail, and horseback riding trails. A lake and marina are in the park, and boats are available for rent. Park employees put on special programs through the summer.

The campground is divided into upper and lower areas. The upper area is for RVs and has full hookups, cable TV and Wi-Fi. The lower area is on the river and is for tent camping, and there are water and electric hookups available.

The river has white water rafting, tubing and fishing. Kayaks are available for rent. There is also an outfitter nearby that provides river trips with kayaks and canoes. The campground has a restaurant, as well as a store for camping supplies you might need.
