Campgrounds Near Michigan Speedway

You will find abundant camping choices near Michigan Speedway, more commonly referred to as Michigan International Speedway. Although the racetrack provides on site camping areas, many race fans prefer a more tranquil setting free from all the commotion leading up to race day.
  1. W.J. Hayes State Park

    • W.J. Hayes State Park is located approximately six miles east of the speedway on U.S. 12. Near the shores of Wamplers Lake, the campground has 185 campsites with picnic tables and fire pits nestled in the Irish Hills of southern Michigan. Showers and a playground also are featured, along with seasonal electrical hook-up. You can choose to stay in mini cabins that accommodate up to four people and require reservations. Wamplers and Round Lakes are great fishing destinations, with boat launches and a beach house. The entire park covers roughly 650 acres. Campsites are modern and rustic, restrooms are on site and a sanitation station is available. Vehicle permits are necessary.

    Juniper Hills

    • Juniper Hills is one of the states biggest privately owned campgrounds with over 200 hilly, wooded aces of camping. The park is located just west of the speedway on U.S. 12. Two convenient pedestrian walkways cross over the roadway leading directly to the track. At Juniper Hills you will find over 2,000 numbered campsites that can accommodate motor homes, fifth wheels and larger rigs. Tent camping is welcome as well as pets. An added benefit of the campground is a retail store stocked with items, such as wood, ice, grocery items and other camper supplies. The campground also features numerous freshwater terminals, hot showers, clean rest rooms and multiple RV dump stations.

    Trackside Retreat

    • Located just 1500 feet from the speedway gate, Trackside Retreat features tent and RV camping. You can walk to the track, use the campground's own transportation or take advantage of a separate shuttle service that will take you to other areas on the vast speedway grounds. Camping site are available during the summer racing season from the Wednesday before race day until noon on the Monday after the event. Trackside Retreat prides itself on having completely level, grass-covered RV and tent sites with no hassle from dust or mud. All campsites have daily trash pickup and nearby toilet areas. RV sites have electrical outlets with water and wood available on site.
