Campgrounds in Two Harbors, Minnesota

The town of Two Harbors is located 20 miles north of Duluth along the North Shore of Lake Superior. In addition to lake shore, scenic Two Harbors is surrounded by evergreen and deciduous forests, cliffs, rolling hills and fields. Wilderness adventure abounds: fishing, canoeing, kayaking, skiing and camping. The area's most renowned trail system, the Superior Hiking Trail, is based out of Two Harbors, where literature and maps can be bought that describe the trail, including the location of backcountry campsites.   1. Penmarallter Campsite

    • Penmarallter is a small family-owned and -operated campground located just south of Two Harbors along the North Shore. The grounds feature 24 RV sites spaced widely apart over 13 acres. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, wireless access and on-site management. Five sites include sewage hookups while a dumping station accommodates the remainder. All sites provide hookups for electric and water. Penmarallter is located within cycling distance of Two Harbors, with a view of Lake Superior most of the way.

    Gooseberry Falls State Park

    • Gooseberry Falls State Park is located 13 miles north of Two Harbors along scenic Highway 61. Gooseberry features a series of plummeting waterfalls along the gorge of the Gooseberry River. Trails link various areas of the park, culminating at Agate Bay along the shores of Lake Superior. Gooseberry Falls offers guests modern campsites for tents or RVs. Showers, flush toilets and a dump station are open seasonally, late May through October. Gooseberry has one kayak site available on a first come first served basis.

    Indian Lake State Forest Campground

    • Indian Lake Campground is operated by Split Rock Lighthouse and located approximately 30 minutes north of Two Harbors in the Cloquet Valley State Forest. Indian Lake does have a swimming area, but the primary draw of this primitive park is the canoeing; the lake is connected to the Cloquet River canoe route. Indian Lake features a boat ramp and access to hiking trails amid a forest of pine, spruce and aspen. The facility is open May through October and costs $12 per night. Campers have access only to basic facilities, picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water and vault toilets.
