Located in the mountainous terrain of Watouga County, Cove Creek is a small historical township on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The community offers historic buildings, such as the Historic Cove Creek High School, an annual music fest, a county fair and monthly community barbecues. Area attractions include Cataloochee Valley Historic Pioneer Settlement, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and an array of outdoor activities including hiking, trout fishing and skiing. Though there are no lodging accommodations available in Cove Creek, several cabins are available for rent nearby.

    Boyd Mountain Log Cabins & Tree Farm

    • Just 4 miles south of Cove Creek along Jonathan Creek Road, Boyd Mountain offers seven log cabin rentals on the grounds of an expansive tree farm. All cabins are fully restored, authentic log cabins built between 150 and 200 years ago. Each is unique with its own features and furnishings. Cabins range from 1 to 4 bedrooms, and they accommodate from 2 to 10 guests. Cabins offer fully equipped kitchens, baths, fireplaces, porches and lovely views. Heat, air conditioning and wireless Internet are available in all cabins. The grounds offers lovely fishing creeks, ponds, gardens and the fir trees of the Christmas Tree farm.

      For leisurely outdoor dining, all cabins offer serene picnic areas, fire pits and outdoor grills. Activities on the grounds include sledding, hiking, swimming in the Jonathan Creek swimming hole, trout fishing, pond fishing, basketball and volleyball. Skiing is also available nearby at Cataloochee ski area, where kids ski free. Though the cabins are secluded from town and one another, the grounds are just a short distance from Waynesville and Maggie Valley, offering dining, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping and entertainment.

    • A favorite among bikers, Alamo Motel and Cottages offers six cottages, a creek-side mobile home and motel accommodations in the beautiful Maggie Valley area. Just a short 7 miles southwest of Cove Creek, Alamo Motel offers modest accommodations on scenic grounds.
