Located just west of downtown Truckee is the State of California's Donner Memorial Park, which is open year-round. Visitors can enjoy camping, boating, fishing and water skiing in the summer. During the winter, the park is a great place for cross-country skiing and hiking the beautiful trails in snow shoes. The park is also home to the Emigrant Trail Museum and the Pioneer Monument, both of which honor those that emigrated to California during the mid 1800s.

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Lake Tahoe, 15 miles south of Truckee, is the State of California's Tahoe State Recreation Area (SRA). Tahoe SRA is located within the city of Tahoe and is near shopping and dining options. Camping spots are available right on the lake for the fisherman or swimmer in the group. The campground is open six months out of the year. Visitors should check with the park directly for exact dates.

Travel 25 miles south of Truckee and visitors will encounter Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. Open for camping seven months out of the year, Sugar Pine Point offers visitors swimming, hiking, fishing and guided tours while enjoying the secluded campsites. Family and group campsites are also available. Interested parties should check with the park directly for open and close dates.
