How to Send Postcards From a Plane

Sending electronic postcards during a flight helps pass the time on the plane. Paper postcards have to wait until you are at the airport, where they can be posted and dropped into a mailbox, but electronic messages are sent in-flight using a wireless signal. In-flight wireless Internet is purchased prior to your flight, or during, depending on the airline. As of 2011, only a few companies provide in-flight Wi-Fi service and only select planes are set-up with the proper equipment. Check with your airline about Wi-Fi service before your flight date.

Purchase in-flight Wi-Fi service. Gogo Inflight Internet is an example of a company that offers Wi-Fi in equipped planes. Purchase minutes via the company's website for a few hours, an entire day or a whole month. The service is only provided with airlines that have partnered with Gogo, such as Delta, United and American Airlines. Some of these participants will allow a traveler to purchase Wi-Fi time in-flight. Ask your flight attendant about in-flight Wi-Fi service to get connected last minute.

Find an electronic postcard. Myriad websites offer free postcards and e-cards, some even provide country-specific images. E-postcards.com, for example, offers an image for almost every European country, each displaying a famous historical site or panorama.

Write your message and send your e-postcard. Most websites allow travelers to send the postcard directly from the website, but some ask you to download an image. Check for security assurances on the website's homepage before downloading anything. Websites put security emblems on the homepage to assure their users that information entered on the site is protected.
