Events Near Byron, Michigan

Byron, Michigan is a diverse community made of suburban neighborhoods and rolling farm lands right in the heart of western Michigan. Three parks are conveniently located in the area, where families can enjoy sporting events, playgrounds, a walking trail, pavilions and picnic areas. Community events take place at various times during the year.
  1. Byron Days Festival

    • Byron Days Festival takes place annually, normally in late July or early August. The festival includes a parade, craft fair, live music, food, concessions, fireworks and children's games. Some years have featured other events, such as a movie night, barbecue dinner, tennis tournament, skateboarding competition and a dunk tank. Members of the community gather together to connect with one another and have a good time. Most events take place at the fairgrounds location at Byron Center, just behind the Byron Township offices.

    Annual Golf Outing

    • A golf outing takes places every year in September at the Railside Golf Club. Money raised during this golf outing is given to the scholarship fund that benefits area high school students. A four-person scramble usually begins with registration, breakfast and a warm up at 7 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. After all teams finish, a lunch and prizes is provided. Fees are $125 per person or $450 per team, as of 2011.

    Robert T. Longway Planetarium

    • The Robert T. Longway Planetarium is located in nearby Flint and offers shows to the public. A Skeeter Scarecrow Starry Sky show takes place on Saturdays and Sundays. A scarecrow named Skeeter narrates a show that teaches about how the motion of the Earth causes night and day. Skeeter teaches about the moon and its phases, as well as our planets and what makes each one different. Laser shows take place on various dates throughout the year, which include lasers choreographed to some of the greatest bands ever.

    Buckham Gallery

    • Buckham Gallery is located near Byron, in Flint, and has a schedule of events available for visitors. An artist member auction lets attendees bid on things, such as horse riding lessons, personal dinners or other items donated by members of the Buckham gallery. Movie nights are scheduled periodically, where people bring their own seating and watch a movie for just the cost of a good-will donation. Buckham Gallery is run by artists and is a non-profit performance and exhibition gallery, where artists from diverse locations showcase their work.
