Visit the U.S. State Department's Passport Acceptance Facility Search Page (see Resources).
Enter your city's ZIP code or select "New Jersey" from the drop-down box and your city from the drop-down box below it. Click "Search." The list on the next screen will show you places where you can renew your passport. For example, if you live in Paramus, that search yields two places where you can renew.
Click on your chosen facility name. The next screen will list the facility's hours of acceptance and whether other conveniences such as passport photo services are offered on site.
Call the facility for an appointment. You must set up an appointment to renew your passport in person. Follow the instructions when you set the appointment for what you need to bring with you.
Call 877-487-2778 anytime to reach the Automated Appointment System. Use this system only if are traveling in less than two weeks or if you are traveling within four weeks and need the passport to get a foreign visa.
Follow the voice prompts to select English or Spanish and then follow the prompts to set a new appointment. The menu will offer several regions of the country; select agencies in the East. The menu will offer regional offices in New England and the mid-Atlantic region. There is no office in New Jersey; the closest office is at 376 Hudson St., New York City.
Follow the prompts to set a date and time. Note your appointment date, time and confirmation number.
Bring with you to the appointment proof that you are traveling in the next 14 days. Acceptable proof includes a plane ticket, a confirmed itinerary from a travel agency or a letter from your employer.
