Prepare your documents. Download a passport form and complete the sections. The DS-11: Application for a U.S. Passport form is available from the State Department's website. Fill in all the information and prepare your passport documents. You need to prove U.S. Citizenship, so have your birth certificate, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship ready. Present identification is also needed for your application, which can include a driver's license or government or military ID.
Make copies of your documents. You will need to make front and back copies of all your documents and supply these when you submit your passport application.

Visit a passport acceptance facility. The only acceptance facility in Smyrna is the local post office. Appointments are required to submit passport applications. The post office is open for applicant appointments Monday through Friday.
Submit your application and pay the appropriate fees. As of November 2010, the adult passport fee is $140. Be prepared to pay with cash if the post office does not accept credit cards.
