Prepare your passport documents. Download a passport form online from the Dallas County website and fill out every section. Have your Social Security card and proof of citizenship documents ready. Documents that prove your citizenship can be a birth certificate, naturalization certificate or citizenship certificate. Other forms of present identification will also be needed, including a valid drivers license or government ID.
Photocopy your documents. When you apply for your passport, you will be required to provide photocopies of the front and back of each document you supply. Make spare copies in case you need them also.
Get your passport photos taken. Many department stores such as Walmart or Sears in the Dallas area can take passport photos. Some Passport Acceptance Facilities---the place you will visit to submit your application---can also take your photos for $10. Local post offices are also equipped to take passport photos.
Visit a Passport Agency or Acceptance Facility. Passport Agencies are only for those who need their passport in less than two weeks, or who are applying for a foreign visa needed within four weeks. All other applicants should apply for passports at Acceptance Facilities. A list of locations, which include local post offices, can be found online at the State Department website.
Submit your application and pay the appropriate fees. Passport Agencies accept all major credit cards, checks and money orders. Acceptance Facilities will accept personal checks, money orders and bank drafts at all locations. As of November 2010, the fee for an adult passport is $140.
