How to Replace a Lost or Stolen Passport at a Passport Office

The U.S. Department of State issues U.S. passports, which are required for most international travel. Passports include a variety of personal information about the holder, including name, sex, birthday and place of birth. For these reasons, a lost or stolen passport should be reported and replaced immediately to guard against identity theft. The U.S. Department of State outlines several steps for replacing a lost or stolen passport.

Instructions

    • 1

Report a lost or stolen passport immediately by contacting the U.S. Department of State at 877-487-2778 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
