How to Replace a Jordanian Passport

If your Jordanian passport has been lost or stolen you probably want to replace it. The Jordanian Embassy in Washington, DC, is the only official venue where Jordanian passports can be renewed or replaced. The Jordanian Embassy Consular Section handles passports in addition to all immigration, travel and legal matters, including criminal background checks and citizenship requests. All requests are processed on site with the coordination of the Jordanian capital at Amman.

Report the loss or theft of your passport to the police as soon as you notice it is gone. Obtain the police report from the incident and provide a certified Arabic translation of it.

Visit the Jordanian Embassy to the United States website. Download the passport replacement form (see Resources). The form has general instructions written in English and Arabic but the line-by-line information and a majority of the textual content is in Arabic, so you will need to write and read Arabic or find assistance. Print and complete the passport replacement application. Have the application form notarized as the printed instructions indicate.

Collect all the required documents to support your passport replacement claim. Purchase an advertisement in a local newspaper declaring that your passport has been lost so your statement of loss becomes a matter of public record. Translate this advertisement into Arabic and include it with your completed application. Write a letter describing how the passport was lost and translate it into Arabic. Take four passport-size photographs and include them with the application. Include a self-addressed and stamped envelope with the other documents. The fees for passport replacement will be calculated by the Royal Jordanian government if the application is approved. Enclose a $20 money order to cover the police report verification fees. You must also include a copy of your lost passport, any past passport or the passport of any immediate family member. If none of these are available you will have to reapply for a passport rather than replace it.

Submit the passport renewal application and all supporting documents to the Jordanian Embassy to the United States in person. The Consular Section is open to receive applications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call the embassy if you are unable to appear in person at 202-966-2861 or 202-966-2887.
