How to Obtain a Nicaraguan Passport

If you are interested in obtaining a Nicaraguan passport, there are a few requirements that have to be met before you will be able to get one. To successfully apply for and obtain a Nicaraguan passport, you will need to meet the residency or citizenship requirement set by the Nicaraguan consular in the country. After meeting the necessary requirements, it is not too difficult to submit the necessary items to obtain a Nicaraguan passport.

      Meet the citizenship or residency requirements. The first requirement to meet to be approved for a Nicaraguan passport is that you are either a citizen of the country or have obtained permanent residency in Nicaragua by living in the country as a foreigner.

      Get the application form. You will need to go to the Nicaraguan consular's office to get the application for a Nicaraguan passport. You can find the location on its website (see Resources).

      Make a copy of your birth certificate. You will need to present a copy of your birth certificate along with the original as part of your application. If you have a birth certificate that was a replacement that was completed after 1995, you will have to meet with the Consular Officer and pass inspection.

      Bring two forms of identification. You will need to present your Nicaraguan identification card as well as an additional form of identification with your application.

      Take some passport-sized photos. You will need to include four passport-sized photos with your application. Be sure that you do not wear sunglasses or a hat in the photos.

      Have money for the application fee. You will need to pay in U.S. dollars for the application for a Nicaraguan passport. In 2009, the application fee was $55.

      Submit your application. You will need to submit your application with all of the supporting items in person that the Nicaraguan consular office. You will receive your Nicaraguan passport by mail within 10 business days.
