Enter Albania with a passport valid for at least 6 months, plus a visa or an entry fee paid upon arrival in Albania.
Locate your nearest Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office once in Albania, then call, email or go in person to request an application for citizenship. (See Resources below for the Albanian MFA website).
Fill out your application, citing your right to apply for Albanian dual citizenship for one of the following reasons: you were born in Albania, you were adopted by Albanian parents or have at least one Albanian parent, or you've lived in Albania for 5 consecutive years. Include proof that you have a home and regular income.
Gather all documents needed to prove any of the above statements, such as your passport, an Albanian birth or adoption certificate if applicable, your Albanian parent's birth certificate, proof of housing such as a lease agreement or certified letter from your landlord, pay-stubs from your employer and a current bank account statement. Make two photocopies of each document, and include them with your application.
Show that you have been married to an Albanian citizen for at least 3 years, and have lived in Albania for at least one year, if applicable, by including two copies of your marriage license and a copy of your Albanian spouse's passport or birth certificate.
Send in your application with photocopies of all necessary documents, and inquire at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office about any processing fees that may be included.
Wait to hear back from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the status of your citizenship application. This period can take up to 4 months.
Schedule an appointment to take a written and oral language test at the nearest Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office. You must demonstrate that you have basic Albanian language skills or higher, to be admitted as a dual citizen.
Wait to hear back from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after passing the language test as to the results of your application for dual citizenship. This process usually takes a few weeks.
