  1. The American Museum of Science and Energy

    • Guests visiting the American Museum of Science and Energy can expect to see exhibits such as the Exploration Station, the Story of Oak Ridge exhibit, the World of the Atom and the Earth's Energy Resources exhibit. The museum first opened in 1949 and was formerly named the American Museum of Atomic Energy. The museum offers members free admission, discounts in the gift shop, invitations to members-only events and a facility rental discount. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

    Forbidden Caverns

    • The Forbidden Caverns is home to 8,350 caves and features educational tours which allow guests to view towering natural chimneys, grottos, a crystal clear stream and sparkling formations. The well-lit trails, lighting effects and stereophonic sound presentations give guesst an enhanced and exciting tour. Discounts for the tour are offered to seniors, members of AAA and AARP and military veterans. Forbidden Caverns is open from April through November from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

    Knoxville Zoo

    • The Knoxville Zoo is a 53-acre zoo which features exhibits such as the Chimp Ridge, Grasslands Africa, the Animal Encounter Village, Black Bear Falls, the Boyd Family Red Panda Village, the Stokely African Elephant Preserve and the Clayton Family Kids Cove. The zoo has animals such as cheetahs, African lions, white rhinos, red wolves, red pandas, gorillas, African penguins, Chinese alligators, alligator snapping turtles and Kenyan sand boas. Tickets for the Knoxville Zoo are available for purchase online or at the zoo. Seniors and children ages 2 to 12 are receive discounts. Group discounts are also available. The zoo hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The zoo features camel rides for children and adults, carousel rides for children, bird shows, education stations and animal presentations where children can be up close and person with animals such as rabbits, giraffes, turkeys and snakes.
