Campgrounds Near Eureka, Missouri

Eureka, Missouri, a city in southwestern St. Louis County, allegedly got its name when workers laying tracks for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in the early 1850s shouted out "Eureka!" -- Greek for "I have found it" -- when they came around a bend at the town's present site and saw level land with few rocks or dirt to move. Today, the Eureka area is home to a number of local and state parks, Six Flags St. Louis amusement park and a half-dozen campgrounds within a 30-mile drive.
