What Campgrounds Are Open at Lake Berryessa?

Lake Berryessa, located a half hour drive from Napa Valley, is one of California's largest man-made lakes, and a popular vacation location. In 2010, the Bureau of Reclamation began a new contract for running the campgrounds and facilities around the 26-mile long lake, causing some campgrounds to temporarily close. The Lake Berryessa Chamber of Commerce is a good resource for finding out the very latest information on resorts opening or re-opening in the area.
  1. Pleasure Cove

    • Located within the resort of Pleasure Cove Marina is a basic campground directly on the water's edge. Pleasure Cove has 140 tent and RV campsites. Basic on-site services include flush toilets, showers and two small picnic areas. The campground requires a two night minimum during the busy summer months, and the facility's 25 full and partial hook-up sites cost a few dollars extra per night. Just a short distance down the road is the resort's boat launch, camp store and boat rental shop.

    Oak Shores Campground

    • Adjacent to Pleasure Cove is the more basic Oak Shores Campground, offering walk-in sites along the lake shore. Oak Shores has close to 100 campsites with barbecue pits and tables and another 20 sites with no facilities, but more privacy along the water. There are no hook-ups for RVs at this campground. On-site are basic restrooms and water pumps, but no showers.

    Chaparral Cove

    • As of January 2011, Chaparral Cover is one of two campgrounds reopened by the Pensus Group under its contract with the Bureau of Reclamation. The campground, located in an area called Putah Creek, offers more than 140 tent and RV campsites in an area along the lake. The campground has an on-site boat launch. In 2011, restrooms are located in temporary port-a-potties, though plans are to have a laundry and flush toilet at the campground.

    Lupine Shores

    • Lupine Shores, the second Pensus Group site, offers 37 campsites for RVs, but with no power or other amenities. Like Chaparral Cove, the campground features port-a-potty restrooms and hand-pump washing stations as of the 2010 camping season. A self service boat launch is available for campers. To reserve a spot, contact the Pensus Group by email.
