Cold Springs Campgrounds in Rio Frio, Texas

Located nearly a two-hours drive from San Antonio, Rio Frio lies on the Frio River in Texas, just south of Cold Spring. It is a very small community with a population that has never exceeded 75 people. Despite its small size, however, Rio Frio has a number of campgrounds around the Rio Frio and Cold Spring area. Due to its proximity to woodland regions and rivers, there are many things for campers to do for entertainment.
  1. River Bluff Cabins

    • Situated near Lost Maples State Natural Area, the River Bluff Cabins have a lot to offer campers both in and around the park. This park is just 15 minutes away from Cold Spring, and the Nueces River and the Frio River that run nearby give campers the chance to paddle downriver in the white waters on rafts or in kayaks. There are also many hiking trails with some that take you on a parallel course with the river and others that take you through the trees into the woodlands. There are lots of chances for wildlife viewing, making the River Bluff Cabins a popular choice for nature lovers. This park only caters to campers who are renting cabins and not for tent or RV campers, but it does provide a swimming pool and volleyball courts for those who do stay.

    Frio Falls Retreat

    • This park is also right next to the river and, like the River Bluff Cabins, the Frio Falls Retreat also has cabins available for rent. Additionally, this park also caters to RVs but not for tent campers. The RV sites have a choice of 30- or 50-amp electrical service and come with barbecue pits, plenty of shade and picnic tables. For most other services, RVs must be self sufficient. Frio Falls Retreat has six cabins ready to rent year-round, and each cabin has two bedrooms, one-and-a-half bathrooms and a fully functional kitchen. There is either a deck or a porch, and each cabin can house up to eight people. With close access to the river, campers can enjoy boating, swimming and fishing; for those who like to keep their feet dry, there are plenty of hiking and biking trails for campers.
