Canopy Tent Washing Instructions

It may not have dawned on you that a tent needs to be cleaned until it became painfully obvious. Although you may expect that a tent requires minimal cleaning, there are many things that can accumulate on your tent, and you will want to eradicate them before it becomes unmanageable. Once the weather forecast predicts a couple of rain-free days, you should begin to clean your tent, as it will need to completely dry before it can be placed in storage.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the tent on a grassy area. Remove your shoes so that you do not track more dirt onto the tent as you clean it.

    • 2

Drizzle laundry detergent over the surface area of the tent, followed by water over the same areas.

    • 3

Scrub the tent with the broom until all of the dirt has been removed. Add more water to the mix as you scrub to remove some of the soap from the tent.

    • 4

Mix one part bleach with three parts water for difficult or mildewed areas. Scrub one small patch of the tent at a time with this solution, and immediately wash off the area with water so the bleach does not set in and harm the tent.

    • 5

Turn over the tent and clean all of the sides in the same manner.

    • 6

Hose off the entire tent once you are satisfied that it is clean. Leave the tent outside until it is completely dry; this may take several days. Turn over the tent once one side is dry to let all areas air out.
