How to Change a Boarding Point for an E-Ticket

Railway tickets have something called a "Boarding Point" or "Originating Station." This is the location where your ticket begins. If you are traveling by railway, you may wish to change the boarding point as your travel plans change. If you already have an e-ticket for the trip, check with the policies and procedures of the train company providing you service. Some companies allow boarding point changes, while others do not allow you to change once the reservation has been made. Additionally, higher class tickets, such as first class, may have more changing capabilities than lower class tickets.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact the train service provider. Look on the back of your printed e-ticket or reservation confirmation email for contact information or go to the train service provider's website and find the "Contact Us" information.

    • 2

Ask to speak with a customer service representative in order to change an existing reservation.

    • 3

Explain to the representative that you wish to change your boarding point. If it is allowed and the distance is now longer, you will be required to pay for the additional travel. If the trip is now shorter, you may get a refund. Either way, a change fee may be imposed by the train company.

Ask for a confirmation sent to your email, including your new e-ticket with your new boarding point. Print the ticket or jot down your confirmation number to bring with you to the station.
