As of February 2010, Southwest Airlines notes that it serves 68 cities in 35 states with over 3,100 flights per day. Southwest's largest presence is in Las Vegas, followed closely by Chicago's Midway Airport. Cancelling a reservation on Southwest can be accomplished a number of ways. Best of all, you will not be at a complete loss due to your change of plans.
Go to the Southwest Airlines website. If you made a reservation through Southwest Vacations, Southwest Groups or at a Southwest ticket counter you will need to call Southwest Airlines to cancel your reservation, according to their website.
Locate your confirmation number. This is a six-digit code comprised of letters and numbers. You will need to either enter this information online or give it to a Southwest representative over the phone. Alternatively, when changing or cancelling a reservation by telephone, you can provide the Southwest agent with the last four numbers of the credit card used to book the reservation, your trip details and passenger information.
Save the cancellation code you are given either over the phone or online. It is a six-digit code similar to the one created when you initially booked your reservation. You will need this code in order use a credit in the amount of the cost of the flight you just cancelled for a future Southwest flight. A new booking using the credit must be made within one year of the date you made your original reservation.
