How to Get a Passport in 10 Days

Obtaining a new or replacement passport generally takes from four to six weeks. However, the Passport Agency provides an expedited service to get your passport in two to three weeks, provided you pay a fee. If you need a passport in less than two weeks, or if you need a passport to obtain a foreign visa within four weeks, you are required to make an appointment with your regional Passport Agency. If you want to get your passport in 10 days, you will need to supply your travel information and make extra time in your schedule during business hours.

Get your travel itinerary and information. If you want to get your passport in 10 days, you will need to show the Passport Agency your travel itinerary or reservations to prove the necessity of your request. Print out your confirmation and itinerary, or bring your paper plane ticket if you have one. If you do not have travel plans or an exceptional emergency, the Passport Agency will not bypass the standard expedited service period of two to three weeks.

    • 2

Have passport photos taken. You will be required to submit two passport photos that conform to the Passport Agency's photo guidelines. Go to your local photo lab if you are not sure where to get Passport Photos. Many local photo labs use special cameras that follow the Passport Agency's regulations.

Compile your documents. You must provide proof of identification, such as a driver's license, and proof of U.S. citizenship, such as an expired passport or birth certificate, to replace or obtain a new passport. Consult the list of required documents for your passport situation at the U.S. Department of State's website and put a folder together.

Make copies of your identification. You will need a photocopy of the front and back of your proof of identification. The Passport Agency provides a list of photocopy guidelines and regulations on its website.

    • 5

Print out the appropriate application form from the U.S. Department of State's website. If you want to speed up the passport application process, it helps to have all of your forms correctly and clearly filled out beforehand. Use black ink and legible handwriting when filling out passport application forms, and do not sign the form until instructed to so by the Passport Agency.

Call the toll free number (provided on the U.S. Department of State's website) to make an appointment with your Regional Passport Agency. All requests for passports needed in 14 days or less must be done through appointment. Once you have made your appointment, you can file your expedited application request directly through the Passport Agency.
