How to Get a Latvian Passport

All Latvian passports issued inside of the United States must be applied for in person at the Latvian Embassy in Washington D.C.. All application appointments must be made ahead of time by calling the embassy to schedule. As with most passport applications, you must provide proof of your citizenship in Latvia and your status as a resident in the U.S.. Only citizens of Latvia are eligible to apply for a Latvian passport.

      Gather the documents needed to apply for a passport. These include your current passport (if applicable), documents proving your legal status in the United States such as green card, citizenship certificate, birth certificate or U.S. passport (if a U.S. citizen), or current U.S. visas accompanied by I-94. If you have not already held a Latvian passport, you must also present your Latvian birth certificate or certificate of citizenship or naturalization.

      If your passport was lost or stolen, you must present a police report from the station where you reported the theft or loss.

      Schedule a passport appointment by calling the Latvian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The number for scheduling appointments is 202-328-2840. Unfortunately, applications sent by mail cannot be accepted; you must go in person. The D.C. embassy is located at:

      Present all documents at the interview and pay the application fee. For children under 15, the passport fee is is $95. For children and young adults between the ages of 15 and 20, the fee is $100. For all adults over the age of 20, the fee is $125. The application fee must be paid in cash or money order.
