How to Renew an Irish Passport From America

Since the beginning of the republic, the Irish population in America has made its presence felt, and not just in Hollywood. Every year, an increasing number of people in America apply for the renewal of their Irish passport. The Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland has put together a relatively simple process that ensures you receive the renewed passport in around eight weeks.

      Look up the website of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. Find the location of the Irish Embassy and consulate offices. Check the dimensions prescribed for the photographs. Get the application form APS 2 E/G from the Irish consulate office closest to the place where you're located or the Irish Embassy in Washington D.C. Have two passport size photographs taken and sized to the prescribed dimensions. Keep your expiring passport ready to attach as proof of Irish citizenship.

      Fill out the form, following all the instructions in neat and legible handwriting. Sign the form in the presence of someone who belongs to one of the categories mentioned on the application form. Request that person to sign on the form, certifying that your signature has been witnessed. The witness should also provide his contact number on the form.

      Attach relevant documents. Get the same witness to sign on the reverse of one passport sized photograph. Keep this and the other photograph and the expiring passport all attached to your application form. Write out a check for the amount prescribed as the passport renewal fee, affix your signature and keep this safely along with your application.

      Submit the application. Check to see you've filled in all details on the application form and signed in the prescribed places. Verify signatures of witnesses on the form and on your photograph. Ensure you've attached all the relevant documents and renewal fee check, take your application form to the Irish Embassy or the consulate and submit to the passport officer.
