Provide two identical, color passport photos. The photographs must be 2 x 2 inches in size. The size of the face from the chin to the top of the hair can only range from 1 to 1 3/8 inches. The photos should be high quality, free of shadows, not over exposed and properly focused (for further specifications, see Resources). Photographs taken from photo booths are unacceptable. There are many places in Mississippi that cater specifically for passport photos, including chain stores like the UPS store, Walgreens and Rite-Aid, as well as most photo studios.
Pay the required application fee. The fee for adults (aged 16 and older) is $100, the fee for minors (under 16 years old) is $85. For the latest information on fees visit the U.S. Department of State website (see Resources). It costs a further $60 for adults and $45 for minors to expedite your application. Payment at Passport Agencies can be made via credit, debit or check cards, bank drafts, personal or certified cashiers' or travelers' checks and money orders to the Department of State. Acceptance Facilities require payment to be made by personal checks, money orders or bank drafts.
Provide evidence of U.S. Citizenship. Submit one of the following: Naturalization certificate, certified birth certificate, certificate of citizenship, previous undamaged U.S. passport or Consular Certificate of Birth Abroad.
Present valid identification. Show one of the following: Drivers license, naturalization certificate, current government or military ID, or previous undamaged U.S. passport.
Apply at a Regional Passport Agency if you are going abroad within two weeks, or if you require your passport for a foreign visa within four weeks. You will need to make an appointment at a Passport Agency, so contact the National Passport Center (see Resources) to find locations in Mississippi.
