Check your passport's expiration date. In order to get a visa to visit Ethiopia, your passport must be valid for at least six months after your date of arrival in Ethiopia.
Obtain one passport-size photograph of yourself.
Get a visa application from the Embassy of Ethiopia's website or in person at the Ethiopian Embassy office in Washington, D.C. Fill out the form completely. You will need to know the address where you will be staying in Ethiopia and provide a contact number both at home and in Ethiopia. Write your name on the back of the passport size photo and attach it to the application in the designated space.
Get a cashiers check or certified bank check and make it out to Embassy of Ethiopia. As of 2011, the fee for U.S. nationals to get an Ethiopian visa was $70.
Make out a self-addressed envelope and attach postage.
Send the application, cashier's check and self-addressed envelope to the Embassy of Ethiopia at: 3506 International Drive, NW, Washington, DC 20008. The visa will be issued in as little as two to three business days.
