Submit form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiance. This form requires a great deal of personal information on the fiance and the US citizen petitioning for a visa for their fiance. That means that both individuals must have proof of their identity, income, and more, to submit the I-129F and have it approved. The form must be submitted to the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office that serves your area. This information may be found on the Department of State's website. Once the I-129F is approved it will be sent to the National Visa Center for processing. If it is approved here then it will be sent to embassy or consulate in your fiance's home country.
Have medical exam and photos taken. The medical exam is very important to the K-1 fiance visa interview. Individuals must have a clean bill of health and no communicable diseases. Chest X-rays will be performed in addition to an HIV test. Vaccines will be given and the doctor will provide the visa applicant with a sealed envelope with the results. Only embassy approved doctors may conduct the health exam. This sealed envelope must be taken to the interview.
Pay the fees. It costs money to make an appointment at the consulate or embassy for a visa interview. It ranges from a $100 or more, depending on the country. When you call to make your appointment you will find out how much the fees are. These must be paid prior to making an appointment for a visa.
Make an appointment to apply for a visa. Once the petition has been approved, the fiance must make an appointment for an interview where the information will be reviewed, This includes evidence of a personal relationship with the US citizen, photos submitted with the petition, emails, phone bills, plane tickets, and more. Tax returns, income statements, employment verification, and more for the US citizen are also necessary. The consulate official conducting the interview will review all of the information, talk with the applicant, and then determine whether a K-1 fiance visa will be issued. If any of the information is missing then a new appointment must be made.
Wait for the visa. After the interview, the consulate official will approve or deny the application. If approved, your passport will be taken and the visa will be applied to a page in your passport and available shortly. Some consuls will have the passport ready the same days and others won't.
