How to Find out the Total Mileage From One Place to Another

Sometimes you need to know the total mileage from one place to another when traveling. Accurate mileage information helps you plan your time and budget for trips. Before the Internet, it was a time-consuming process to find total mileage from one place to another. However, today you can use any online mapping application to calculate the distance between two places.

  Open a Web browser on your computer and go to an online mapping application. Google Maps, Bing Maps, Yahoo Maps and MapQuest are examples of online mapping applications.

  Click the "Get Directions" link. Some mapping applications, such as Yahoo Maps, do not have a "Get Directions" link. For these mapping applications, you can enter the two places between which you're calculating the distance directly from the mapping application's homepage.

  Enter the two places between which you want to find the total mileage. You will enter the first location in the "A" field and the second location in the "B" field. You can enter complete addresses, zip codes, or a city and state.

  Click the "Go" or "Get Directions" button to display the total mileage between the two places.
