Go to your nearest post office and obtain a change of address form. Complete the form and return it to the post office or your mail carrier. Complete the form by entering your name, old address, new address and the date you wish the mail forwarding to start. Return the change of address form to your postal carrier or the USPS office.
Alternatively, you can complete a change of address form through the USPS website. You must have a valid credit or debit card for identity verification purposes.
Contact any company or business that does not allow mail forwarding, such as a government agency. Make sure you contact the company two weeks prior to moving to ensure enough time for the new mailing address to take effect.
Contact any newspaper where you have a subscription. To contact The Detroit News, call 800-395-3300. To contact The Detroit Free Press, call 313-222-6400. Inform the circulation department or communication center that you are moving and need to change your mailing address. Notify the newspaper of your new address and tell the clerk the date when the change is to take effect.
