Summer Projects for Campus Crusade for Christ

Campus Crusade for Christ, an interdenominational, inter-college Christian organization began by Bill and Vonette Bright in 1951, seeks to "win the campus today and change the world tomorrow." Campus Crusade also coordinates summer projects in which teams of staff and students volunteer in almost 200 countries around the world.
  1. Typical Summer Projects

    • Campus Crusade summer projects cover the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa and other areas the organization says are too sensitive to publicize. The location of projects varies from college to college, and projects can last from one to 12 weeks. The type of volunteer work students and staff perform varies, but can include ministry to certain ethnic communities, athletes, high school students, college students, children, the military or even prison inmates. Summer projects utilize such skills as computer knowledge, web design, artistic talent, speaking abilities and teaching experience.

    Applying

    • You can apply to summer projects online through the Campus Crusade website. A map displays where all available projects are located, or, you can select a project according to ministry focus. Each project includes an "Apply Now" button that takes the user to a log in screen, where you can sign up for an account. Projects also include a contact link for more information.

    Costs

    • The cost of participating in a summer project depends on the project's location and length. The cost of a project often includes plane tickets, housing, books and food. Because these are volunteer missions, students are required to cover the cost of the trip themselves; however, students are encouraged to solicit financial support from their home church, family and friends. Upon acceptance to a project, Campus Crusade sends participants information on how raise this support.

Project Goals and What to Expect

    • The purpose of a Campus Crusade summer project is to reach people in a certain locale with the Christian gospel. Potential participants in these projects will deepen their relationship with God, and will develop lasting friendships with their co-volunteers, according to the group's website. Participants are trained in sharing their faith and becoming an effective leader.

    Deciding to Go

    • Campus Crusade's encourages students to carefully contemplate, in prayer, the decision to go on a project. Using scripture verses to support its aims to witness at home and abroad, the organization, on its website, prompts potential participants to ask themselves if the Holy Spirit is leading them to go on a project.
