Going away for a fun day or two at a water park is a great family vacation idea. But water park fun doesn't have to be restricted to summertime. Indoor parks can be visited year round and often nearby or sponsor hotels offer discounts for family groups. The Willow Valley Resort in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, offers a small but popular indoor water playground area that is available year-round to reserve for pool parties. Located within an easy drive of the Lancaster International Airport, the resort has a large indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi as well as water slides, a play sprinkler area and a wading pool. There is a small tubing slide within the playground, and in the summer months an outdoor pool is available nearby. As of 2010 the Willow Valley Resort pool and water playground hours were Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

About a two-hour drive northeast of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the family looking for a weekend indoor water park resort getaway will find Split Rock Resort, Golf Club and H2ooohh Indoor Family Water Park in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania. In 2010 the indoor water park facility was open to both guests of the resort and the general public. Rides include the Komodo Dragon flow rider feature, three plunge water slides that drop riders four stories into a waiting 5-foot-deep catch pool and various hot tubs for adults and sprinkler play areas for little ones. This is Lancaster's first and largest indoor water park and and offers discounted packages to those who stay at the hotel and visit the park. This 10,000-square-foot indoor water park facility is Caribbean themed with warm water in all the features, mimicking a tropical beach setting. Two 26-foot water slides, a vortex pool, a water basketball court and a large indoor swimming pool with palm-treed deck are just some of the park's features. (While the park was temporarily closed for a portion of 2010, prospective and former guests were ensured that it would be reopening and were urged to check back often for its reopening date announcement.)
