How to Get an Ecuadorian Passport

A passport is a legal document that enables international travel for the person entitled to it. Citizens of Ecuador must possess a passport if interested in travelling to a foreign destination. The passport will not only be an indication of their Ecuadorian nationality, but it will also grant them re-entry into their home country. Obtaining an Ecuadorian passport can be done abroad simply by visiting the designated embassy or consulate of Ecuador in the country of residence.

Instructions

    • 1

Refer to the government section of your phone book or an online resource such as Embassies Abroad to locate the Ecuadorian embassy or consulate in your jurisdiction. Nearly 50 countries host a consulate office of Ecuador, and a passport must be requested in person.

    • 2

Complete an Ecuadorian Passport Application Form at the consulate office or download it ahead of time from the Embajada del Ecuador website. Printing the form beforehand will save you processing time.

    • 3

Present your Cédula, or Ecuadorian identification card, as proof of your Ecuadorian citizenship. You can request a certified copy from Civil Registry in Ecuador if your Cédula has been lost or stolen.

    • 4

Have your passport photo taken by the consulate's photo service. Otherwise, you will be responsible for providing two identical color photos, 2-by-2 inches in size. They must be recent and taken against a white background.

    • 5

Submit your application form and passport materials to the consulate and pay the processing fee. It is nonrefundable and can be made payable by money order, cash or credit card. Provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope to receive your passport in the mail, or wait three to 10 business days to collect it from the designated office.
