Find the Regional Passport Center closest to you (see Resources below). There are 18 offices in the continental United States, so you may have to drive a few hours, depending on your location. If you need a passport within 1 week, your only option is to apply in-person.
Gather all of the documents required to apply for a passport. You need a certified copy of your birth certificate, state photo IDs and two identical passport photos. Visit a local photographer to have the photos made. The photos must measure 2 by 2 inches and show a clear view of your face. Since applying in-person is reserved for those traveling overseas very soon, you will also need proof of your upcoming travel (must be within 14 days), so bring your plane ticket.
Contact the Regional Passport Center to set up an appointment. These offices accept applicants by appointment only, with no exceptions.
Travel to the center with your required documentation. Make sure to bring your payment of $95 plus $25 for processing. The agency will assist you in filling out the forms and grant you an immediate passport card that will allow you to travel.
