The Comerica Cityfest event in Detroit is held over 4th of July weekend each year in the historic New Center. Free musical shows are available on four stages over the five-day event. More than 40 Michigan restaurants sell samples of their menu to the visitors. Games and activities for children are available as is a special market that sells Detroit products and memorabilia. This event is free and open to the public.
The Ann Arbor summer festival is held from mid June through the first week of July each year. Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan, is known for its quaint downtown area and shops as well as a diverse mix of local artists. The three-week festival is a mash up of live music, film and comedy shows. Restaurants participate by offering samplings of their menus for sale at various events. Shows are held both in and outdoors throughout the town of Ann Arbor.
One of the largest air shows in Michigan is held in the beginning of July in Battle Creek and will be sure to entertain all of your aviation fantasies. See fighter planes dip, fly and perform feats in the air. In addition to the air show, the event also provides a carnival, a stage for live shows, National Guard military display, specialty food vendors, hot air balloons and fireworks.
The National Cherry festival, held in Traverse City the first week of July, has more than 150 different events. There are free air shows over the bay, parades, marching bands and music shows. Sporting events, carnival rides and games are also offered. Not to mention various food vendors, pie-eating contests and cherries prepared in dozens of different ways for taste and for sale.
