Georgia Mountain Campgrounds With Horseback Riding

North Georgia consists of five major mountains and mountain chains, including Lookout Mountain, Brasstown Bald and Stone Mountain. With a large quantity of lakes, streams and rivers, the Georgia mountains offer many recreational opportunities including camping, water-skiing, whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, fishing and more. For those wishing to enjoy a camping experience with horseback riding, numerous options are available at campground facilities in north Georgia. With breathtaking mountain scenery everywhere, a trip to one of these campgrounds is sure to be a refreshing and relaxing adventure.
  1. Trackrock Campground and Cabins

    • Situated on 300 acres of woodlands, Trackrock Campgrounds is located in the Brasstown Bald area of Blairsville, Georgia. Surrounded by National Forests, Trackrock offers 95 level campsites with water and electricity. Half of the sites also offer sewer hookups. Neighboring the campgrounds is the Trackrock Stables, which are deal for a horseback-riding adventure, Trackrock has more than 250 acres of riding space bordering the Chattahoochee National Forest. Horses for riders of all skill levels are available to rent for 1 and 2-hour guided rides. Children from ages 18 months to 5 years may ride with an adult for an additional fee.

      For those bringing their horse, overnight stall boarding with bedding is available for a fee. Lessons are offered for adults and children in both Western and English styles. Other campground activities include fishing, swimming, hiking and playground areas for children.

    Grove River Ranch LLC, Equestrian Center & Retreat

    • Grove River Ranch, located only an hour from Atlanta in Gillsville, Georgia, provides guests with an equestrian retreat in the mountains. Guests are invited to bring their horses for the day or longer as guests at its campgrounds. Beautiful hardwoods, creeks and the Grove River provide the ideal background for a ride through the ranch's trails systems. Ten stalls are available in the stables for overnight boarding. The facility features an indoor training pen, full bath with laundry and climate control tack rooms. An outdoor arena is located behind the stables.

      Camping facilities include a mini-campground with six water and electric hookups and horse high-lines or corral areas. There is also a primitive group camp along the river. A stocked pond with fishing docks, picnic areas and fire rings also are on the property. Horse rentals are not available at the ranch.

    Cherokee Creeks Stables

    • Situated in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Chatsworth, Georgia, Cherokee Creeks Stables offers guests a special camping experience on 160 acres adjoining Fort Mountain State Park. Twenty stalls, measuring 10 feet by 12 feet are available for boarding. Bedding can be rented for an additional charge.

      Stable campsites feature supply water, electric hookups and day-use parking. The barn also has hot showers. More than 20 miles of horse trails give guests riding opportunities from 3 to 16 miles. The stable's unique location of elevations between 1,600 and 2,000 feet provide riders with magnificent mountain vistas, including wildlife, forests, waterfalls and seasonal plants and flowers. Packages are available for overnight camping rides, couple rides and birthday parties.
