Army Corps of Engineer Campgrounds in Michigan

The Army Corps of Engineers has had many projects involving navigation and water levels, and as a result, a lot of campgrounds have been created. Campgrounds in Michigan are in wilderness areas where there are trails and streams for outdoor adventure. Some are along river and creek banks.
  1. Ausable River Camping

    • The Ausable River area is not a campground in the purest sense of the word. It is a 55-mile long area along the river that is set aside for camping. The camping is primitive, and there are virtually no services available at the 122 sites. There are majestic bluffs, great scenery and the quiet of a natural setting. The sites can be reserved in advance May through September, and other times of year camping is on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are 34 sites that do not have electricity. All of these sites have water. Six sites are handicapped accessible. Additionally, there are six sites that are for groups. Some sites are on the lake coast.
There is a ranger station, amphitheater, restrooms, showers and a swimming beach. Hiking trails are marked; some are paved and some are dirt.
