How to Apply for a Swiss Visa

Switzerland is one of the most picturesque countries you'll find with green hills dotted cattle, snow-capped mountains and quaint villages with pastel-colored houses. If you come from the U.S., Canada, Australia, the E.U. or any of some 30 other countries, you may enter Switzerland for up to 90 days for tourist purposes without a visa. However, if you want to stay longer or come from a country that requires a visa, you'll need to apply for a Swiss visa.

Instructions

    • 1

Have a valid passport. The passport must be valid three months past your intended departure date.

    • 2

Obtain two color photos of yourself. The photos should be recent, passport-sized (3.5-by-4.5 cm) and show your full face.

    • 3

Show that you have no intention of staying in the country past the date of your departure. A round-trip airline ticket will suffice as proof.

    • 4

Gather evidence of financial sufficiency during your stay. This may take the form of recent bank statements, credit card statements or a letter from your employer on company letterhead, stating your salary.

    • 5

Obtain proof of health insurance. Your health insurance should cover the entire length of your intended stay and must cover up to 30,000 euros of medical expenses.

    • 6

Submit a completed visa application form and all relevant documents to the nearest Swiss Embassy. Be prepared to pay the visa processing fee, varies greatly depending on your nationality and the type of visa for which you're applying (tourist, business, student).

    • 7

Wait for your visa application to be approved. Processing times vary, but it generally takes five business days to two weeks.
