How to Get a Passport in Arizona Fast

A passport is a license to travel the world, but sometimes travelers are not as

organized as they would like to be. If you are in Arizona and can show that you will be traveling internationally within two weeks or need a passport to apply for a foreign visa within four weeks, speed up your application by applying for your passport in person at the Western Passport Center in Tucson.

Instructions

    • 1

Call (877) 487-2778 to make an appointment at the Western Passport Center in Tucson. As of October 2010, appointments are available between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    • 2

Download and complete form DS-11, which is an application for a U.S. passport and available on the Department of State website. Do not sign the form until instructed to do so at the Western Passport Center.

    • 3

Ensure you have all required forms of identification. For a new passport, you must show evidence of your social security number and U.S. citizenship, such as a certified birth certificate or naturalization certificate.

    • 4

Make photocopies of both the front and back of the documents you intend to use as identification. Check the Department of State website for the guidelines on photocopies.

    • 5

Buy two passport photos of yourself, ensuring that the photos conform to Department of State rules--check the website for the most up-to-date requirements. The most common problem with photos is over or underexposure.

    • 6

Ensure you can pay the passport fee, including the additional fee for expedited service. Check the Department of State website for current charges, but as of October 2010 the additional expedition fee was $60. The Western Passport Center accepts credit cards, checks and money orders as payment methods.

    • 7

Bring all your documents to the appointment and make sure you arrive on time. You will not be admitted to the Passport Center if you arrive more than 15 minutes before or after your appointment time.

    • 8

Check in using your social security number or your appointment confirmation number. A staff member will work through your application with you. The Western Passport Center is one of the few passport agencies able to issue a passport card on site, although passport books are still dispatched via mail.
