Fill out the passport application. Passport applications can be downloaded from the Scottsdale, Arizona government's website. The forms must be filled out completely and signed in front of a clerk at an official passport acceptance facility.
Have passport photos taken. Passport applicants must have two 2-by-2-inch photos taken with a white or off-white background, with the applicant facing the camera. Photos can be taken at many drugstores and copy shops.
Ensure that you have the proper identification. Applicants must have a state-issued driver's license or government-issued identification card. Other forms of ID include military-issued IDs and current government employee ID. According to the city clerk's office, if the applicant does not have any of these forms of ID, "a school or college ID with picture or a voter registration card and a second form of ID such as a credit card will be accepted."
Take your application to a passport acceptance facility, listed on the United States Department of State's website.
Produce evidence of citizenship. Applicants may use a certified copy of their birth certificate, certificate of naturalization or citizenship, an expired passport, or a consular report of birth. For child passport renewals, a birth certificate and previous passport must be submitted.
Pay the appropriate fee. As of 2010, the fee for an adult passport is $75 payable to the U.S. Department of State, plus $25 payable to the City of Scottsdale. For child passports, the fee is $60 payable to the U.S. Department of State, and $25 payable to the City of Scottsdale. Passport cards may be used for travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda, excluding air travel. For adults, the cost is $20, payable to the U.S. Department of State, and $25 payable to the City of Scottsdale. For children, a $10 fee paid to the U.S. Department of State and a $25 fee paid to the City of Scottsdale will be assessed.
