Consisting of 5,000 acres of forest bordered by Cypress Creek and the Tuscumbia River in southwestern McNairy County, Big Hill Pond State Park allows year-round camping in its four campgrounds. Each site includes a rustic shelter housing four bunks. Three of the sites are very remote, with one located on a ridge above scenic Dismal Branch. Big Hill Pond State Park offers a wealth of activities including fishing and boating at Travis McNatt Lake and old Big Hill Pond, formed by excavation in 1853. The true gem of the park is the view of Travis McNatt Lake from the 70-foot tall Dismal Swamp Observation Tower, as well as the park's wetlands, formed in the flood plain of the Tuscumbia River.
Located in southwestern Shelby County, Meeman-Shelby Forest State borders the Mississippi River and consists of more than 13,000 acres. Forty-nine campsites lie within the park, each operated year-round and equipped with modern amenities like bathhouses and full hookups for RV campers, while the park also offers vacation cabins in the shore of Poplar Tree Lake. The most scenic park is Dogwood Ridge Campground, which is surrounded by tall shade trees like sugar maple and sweetgum. Park activities include 20 miles of hiking trails through the heart of the park and the park's Nature Center as well as a number of attractions in neighboring Memphis, only 15 miles from the campground.
Located in the western Tennessee town of Springville, the Britton Ford Campground lies in the west branch of Big Sandy River and has been family owned and run since it was built in 1972. Campsites range from primitive tent sites along the water to RV sites with full hookups and are operated year-round. The highlights of the park are its two water gardens as well as its close proximity to area attractions like the Tennessean Golf Club and natural parks like Paris Landing State Park and Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. The park is also close to Dyer Lake, a known meeting place for the people of Springville, which offers a tranquil setting for fishing or a relaxing lakeside visit.
Situated at the edge of the Beech Bend Recreation Area in the southwestern town of Decaturville, Beech Bend Campground features more than 70 campsites on 11 acres of quiet, scenic land along the Tennessee River. The camp also runs Captain Ron's Boat and Camping Store, offering paddle boats, sail boats, fishing boats, kayaks and canoes to explore the Tennessee River. The campground is within 10 miles of the Busseltown unit of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, providing excellent views of area wildlife, as well as the 1,247 acre Mousetail Landing State Park.
